The Science Journalism Pathways to STEM Careers
The Science Journalism Pathways to STEM Careers project is a partnership between three organizations, Tincan, EdLab Group and Reel Grrls, which taps the digital practices and interests of middle school girls and uses them to provide insight and experience with science knowledge and careers. At ten after school clubs, participants will learn to analyze a news story about a local issue, determine the strength of the scientific content of the story, and carry out simple hands-on science experiments to learn about the science behind the issues, and interview scientists who can provide more information on the topic. They will learn video production skills including camera work and editing, to produce a broadcast news-type video with a more detailed scientific perspective. They will also produce a career video featuring one of the scientists they have interviewed.
