National Girls Collaborative Project
The purpose of the National Girls Collaborative Project™ (NGCP) is to strengthen the capacity, impact, and sustainability of existing and evolving girl-serving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs. Through encouraging collaboration among organizations, institutions, and businesses committed to expanding the participation of women in STEM, projects involved in the collaborative network will have a much greater chance of maintaining interest and participation of girls in STEM programs. Regional collaboratives provide support and resources to local programs and are comprised of higher education institutions, community-based organizations, and/or private non-profits that all work to increase gender equity in STEM fields in their region.

The National Girls Collaborative Project is partially funded via a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Human Resource Development, and Research on Gender in Science and Engineering. The program seeks to broaden the participation of girls and women in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education by supporting research, dissemination of research, and extension services in education that will lead to a larger and more diverse domestic science and engineering workforce.
The specific goals of NGCP are to:
- Maximize access to shared resources within projects and with public and private sector organizations and institutions interested in expanding girls’ participation in STEM.
- Strengthen capacity of existing and evolving projects by sharing promising practice research and program models, outcomes and products.
- Use the leverage of a network or collaboration of individual girl-serving STEM programs to create the tipping point for gender equity in STEM.
The Program Directory lists organizations and programs that focus on motivating girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The purpose of this Directory is to help organizations and individuals network, share resources, and collaborate on STEM-related projects for girls.
NGCP Mini-grants are awarded to girl-serving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focused programs to support collaboration, address gaps and overlaps in service, and share promising practices.
Resources on research based strategies, collaboration techniques, success stories, archived webcasts and newsletters, statistics on girls in STEM, and more are made available by the NGCP to strengthen the capacity of existing girl-serving STEM projects and to bolster collaborative efforts.
Regional collaboratives host a variety of Events for girl-serving organizations, educators, and business professionals in their areas.
