ITEST-Convening
The EdLab Group is a private, non-profit center with funding from federal and state governments, private foundations, corporations, and individuals. Our mission is to leverage the power of technology and diversity to transform teaching and learning. The ITEST Learning Resource Center at EDC, in partnership with the National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) and MPR Associates, Inc., recently hosted a convening event: "Defining an After School Research Agenda." Together, convening attendees are working to craft a field-informed research agenda to identify gaps and clarify central questions regarding STEM workforce development in the after school environment.

Topics for discussion at the gathering included the assessment of program models and core elements, professional development of staff, engaging underrepresented groups, partnerships with industry and academia, and scaling and sustainability strategies. The convening and related project dissemination activities are intended to:
- Advance research on replication and scalability of STEM workforce development in after school
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst participants
- Stimulate discussion and plans around future ITEST study proposals on after school issues
Funded by the National Science Foundation, this three-day event was held June 9-11, 2010 in St. Paul at the Science Museum of Minnesota. The agenda was developed by a planning committee of leading researchers on STEM learning, national experts on after school, and Principal Investigators of ITEST projects. Selected attendees included researchers in STEM workforce development and informal learning, the after school field, the ITEST community, STEM industry, and philanthropy.
