The Future-Ready Workforce Project provided incumbent worker training in lean manufacturing processes and information technology skills for small to mid-size Puget Sound area companies.

The Future-Ready Workforce Project provided training for companies with 500 or fewer employees; smaller firms that can least afford expensive training programs.

These trainings helped smaller companies become more competitive and therefore more successful. Employees become more highly skilled and thus more likely to retain jobs and ultimately receive wage increases.

By training incumbent workers in the principles of lean manufacturing and information technology solutions, companies can:

• remain competitive
• prevent lay-offs and provide job security
• provide workers higher wages

The training is flexible to meet the diverse needs of employees while addressing the issue of skill gaps as a strategy for layoff prevention and increased compensation in a rapidly and ever-changing work world.

During the course of the two-year grant, over 75 incumbent workers will be trained in lean manufacturing processes and information technology skills such as CATIA, CMM, Unigraphics and Teamcenter software.
